Yesterday, NNPC Ltd. extended its condolences to Nigeria’s ex-international footballer, Tijjani Babangida, following the tragic loss of his son, Fadil, and his brother, Ibrahim Babangida, in a severe road accident on Saturday, May 11, 2024, along the Zaria-Kaduna Road. The accident also left Babangida and his wife with serious injuries; both are currently receiving medical treatment.
During the visit, Mr. Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., represented by the company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the Babangida family. Mr. Kyari offered prayers for the souls of the deceased and wished Babangida and his wife a swift recovery.
Earlier in February 2024, Tijjani Babangida participated in a novelty football match led by the legendary Austin Jay Jay Okocha during the grand finale of the 13th NNPC Sports Fiesta at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
In his response, Babangida expressed gratitude to NNPC Ltd. for their support during his time of grief. He acknowledged that while the loss of loved ones is irreplaceable, the company's kind gesture has bolstered his strength to cope with the situation.
