Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ordering the release of 76 minors detained in connection with the August 2024 protests.
The Governor expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu, describing his decision as a magnanimous gesture toward the youth of Kano State.
The 76 minors will undergo medical evaluation and receive necessary treatment before being reunited with their families. Governor Yusuf assured that the children will be reintegrated into society through enrollment in local schools, providing them with opportunities to rebuild their lives and realize their full potentials.
Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized that President Tinubu's decision to pardon the teenagers was driven by humanitarian concerns. The protests resulted in significant financial losses, totaling over 3 billion naira.
Governor Yusuf reassured that his administration will continue to monitor the well-being of the released minors and provide necessary support to ensure their successful reintegration into society. A team of medical professionals will assess the physical and mental health of the released minors.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, also pledged support for the released minors, offering funding for those who intend to start businesses and scholarships for those still in school.
Vice President Shettima called on governors and elected representatives from all political backgrounds to unite and support the rehabilitation and reintegration of the released protesters into their communities.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that despite the gravity of the charges, the minors deserve a second chance to rehabilitate and contribute positively to society.
