The Nigerian Bar Association, Ungogo Branch, under the leadership of its Chairman, Ahmad Abubakar Gwadabe, Esq., hereby extends its commendation to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his prompt and courageous decision in setting up a probe committee to investigate the troubling allegation that a serving government official stood surety for a suspected drug baron, currently facing charges before the Federal High Court in Kano.

This is  contained in a Press release Signed: Ahmad Abubakar Gwadabe, Esq.
Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, Ungogo Branch Kano State and made available to press.

The NBA Ungogo Branch views this development with serious concern, as issues related to drug trafficking are closely linked with rising security threats, youth delinquency, and numerous social vices currently plaguing our communities. Drug-related crimes fuel violence, endanger public health, and undermine the moral fabric of our society. It is, therefore, imperative that a firm and zero-tolerance approach is adopted by all arms of government to curb this growing menace.

While we commend the establishment of the probe committee, we also strongly call on the State Government to make the findings of the committee public to promote transparency and accountability. Furthermore, we urge the committee members to carry out their assignment with the highest degree of professionalism, integrity, and impartiality — despite the fact that the terms of reference have not been made public.

The NBA Ungogo Branch reaffirms its commitment to justice, ethical governance, and the protection of public interest. We will continue to support efforts that seek to uphold the rule of law and safeguard our state from the devastating effects of drug abuse and criminal complicity.
