In a grand academic and social celebration, close associates of Professor Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi, the immediate past Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, hosted a special event to mark the successful conclusion of his tenure.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of a distinguished award to Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, Founder and President of MAAUN Group of Universities, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to education and his fatherly mentorship to Professor Bichi.

The high-profile event, held at the main auditorium of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Bichi, brought together eminent scholars, senior administrators, political figures, and well-wishers from across Nigeria.

Delivering a goodwill message, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), described Professor Bichi as an empathetic leader and dedicated academic whose tenure was marked by transformational leadership and people-centered service.

He praised the organisers for honouring both Professor Bichi and key figures who supported his administration, noting that the award to Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo was a fitting tribute to a man whose legacy in higher education continues to impact lives across the continent.

According to Professor Rasheed, Professor Gwarzo’s steadfast support and guidance to Professor Bichi were instrumental in many of the successes recorded during his leadership at FUDMA.

In his remarks, the Acting Vice Chancellor of FUDMA, Professor Aminu Ado, echoed these sentiments, describing Professor Bichi as a compassionate administrator whose developmental initiatives significantly improved the university’s academic and infrastructural profile.

A major highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of a commemorative publication titled "Malami a Bakin Mawaka" (The Teacher Through the Eyes of Poets), a collection of poetic tributes penned by university staff in honour of Professor Bichi.

The book was officially launched by Professor Gwarzo—represented by Dr. Ali Yusuf Kakaki—who made a generous donation by purchasing two copies for ₦2 million. Senator Alu Magatakarda Wamako also supported the publication by acquiring three copies for ₦1 million.

In his appreciation speech, Professor Armaya’u Bichi expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organisers, guests, and honourees for their unwavering support and kind wishes.

He highlighted the personal and professional influence Professor Gwarzo had on his journey, describing him as a mentor and father figure whose guidance helped shape his academic leadership.

Also honoured at the event were several prominent individuals, including Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, Malam Rufa’i Bichi, and former Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, for their immense contributions to the advancement of education in Nigeria.
