The Kwankwasiyya Movement has expressed concern over the recent passage of controversial amendments to the Electoral Act, highlighting the dangers of one-party dominance in Nigeria's democracy. The group attributes this dominance to defections from elected officials who secured mandates on other party platforms, undermining democratic representation.

In a statement, Spokesperson Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed argues that defections without ideological justification or constituency consultation distort democracy, as the mandate belongs to the electorate, not officeholders. The Movement warns that unchecked power concentration erodes accountability, citing the amended Electoral Act as an example, where public protests and expert warnings were overlooked.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement stresses that Nigeria's democracy relies on checks and balances, vibrant opposition, and legislative independence. They urge citizens to remain vigilant, emphasizing that democracy belongs to the people and must not be compromised. The group calls on elected representatives to prioritize the Nigerian people's interests over personal convenience.
