Africa Academy, an online learning institution under Africa TV3, has graduated 3,500 students who completed their Diploma in Islamic Jurisprudence.
The graduation ceremony was held at the main auditorium of the new site of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), and was attended by distinguished guests from Saudi Arabia, renowned Islamic scholars, university Vice Chancellors, businessmen and workers from different parts of the country.
During the event, some of the outstanding students who scored 100 percent were rewarded with tickets for Umrah. In addition, eight other students who came next with excellent results were each given a cash prize of $100.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of Africa Media Network and Head of Africa Academy, Dr. Habib Tijjani Tahir, said the graduation of 3,500 students this time shows how widely accepted the academy has become among the public.
He said last year the academy graduated 2,000 students, while this year the number has exceeded 3,000, which according to him shows tremendous success and the understanding the public has for the program.
Dr. Habib said the program is run free of charge, with support from some philanthropists, to give people the opportunity to acquire knowledge regardless of their condition. He explained that Africa Media Network runs several platforms including Africa TV3, Afrika Radio, Africa Digital Plus and Africa Academy.
He said the online learning system has made it easier for people to acquire knowledge, adding that there is now no excuse for anyone not to seek Islamic knowledge, as one can access the lessons whether at home or at work.
Dr. Habib also commended the decision by the Vice Chancellor of Al-Muhibba University who promised to offer degree opportunities to students who excelled in their examinations. He said they hope other universities will emulate this gesture to give students the opportunity to further their studies and expand access to education. According to him, plans to establish a University under Africa Academy are at an advanced stage.
Also speaking, one of the parents who attended the ceremony, the 1st Commissioner at the Kano State Pension Board, Alhaji Hassan Muhammad Aminu, described the Africa Academy initiative as a commendable program that aligns with efforts to educate the public.
He said educating women is extremely important because when you educate a woman, it can help in educating the family and the entire society.
Alhaji Hassan praised Africa Academy, praying that Allah rewards those running the program, and called on other organizations and television stations to emulate such educational support initiatives.
He also called on well-to-do individuals to support youth education, especially considering the current economic situation that makes some parents unable to afford their children's education. According to him, supporting education will help reduce idleness and create opportunities that will enable youth to engage in activities beneficial to themselves and the society.
.On their part, the graduating students of Africa Academy appreciated the care and support given to them by their teachers during their studies. The students also honored the management of the school under the leadership of Dr. Habib Tijjani Tahir, for their contribution towards the completion of their studies.
