The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, has charged security agencies in the state, especially the Nigeria Police, to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder of Hillary Odia, a broadcaster at Independent Television and Radio, who was brutally murdered around 2nd East Circular, Benin City on the night of Sunday, December 24, 2023 during fighting between gangs of secret cults in Benin, the state capital.

A statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the NUJ in Edo State, Comrade Festus Alenkhe and the secretary Andy Egbon, also charged Nigerian journalists to investigate the incident of Hillary’s death and as well ensure adequate reportage of the killing.

The union commiserated with the management of the ITV and prayed for the repose of the soul of the fallen colleague and urged his family to take solace in the fact that Hillary will be remembered on the positive side of history.

The Police Command in Edo has reacted to the killing of Mr Hillary Nosa Odia.

The Command in a statement on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, attributed the killing of the journalist to the recent surge in secret cult fighting and the killings in Benin, which, according to it, have claimed the lives of innocent citizens with Odia being one of the latest victims.
