From Rabilu Abubakar, Gombe
As part of efforts to safeguard schools and protect students against hoodlums, the Gombe state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 50 of its personnel to all the public tertiary institutions across the state.
The state commandant of corps Muhammad Bello Mu’azu stated this in an interview with our reporter in Gombe where he said that safe school initiative is a program by the federal government aimed at protecting the students of all higher institutions across the country from hoodlums that take advantage of lack of security to kidnap the students.
Mu’azu said safe school initiative was crucial to all compatriots whose children go to schools saying many parents do not have peace of mind as miscreants attack schools to abduct innocent students.
“To curtail this problems even though I am dwelling with serious shortages of logistics in the area of transportation, but I did not allow that to become an impediment or a factor that will make me to sit down doing nothing. I came of with the idea to post armed personnel in all tertiary institutions.", he said.
"I am doing all I can do to see all schools are safe and the students are protected in all the institutions across the state.", he assured.
The NSCDC boss added that the corps has a good working relationship with all the securities agencies in the state promising that they would partner with other relevant law enforcement agents whenever the need arises to ensure the success of the safe school initiative.
