The Kano state government has taken a significant step towards improving its healthcare system by inaugurating the Health Fellows Programme Selection Committee.
This committee is tasked with selecting competent individuals from across the state to participate in the Health Fellows Programme, which aims to enhance service delivery in the healthcare sector.
According to the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, the programme is a crucial part of the state government's efforts to reform the health sector.
The initiative focuses on equipping emerging professionals with advanced leadership skills, capacity building, and service excellence to improve the state's healthcare system.
The ultimate goal of the programme is to develop future healthcare leaders through professional training and field engagement. This will not only enhance service delivery capabilities across various disciplines, including medicine, IT, social sciences, and finance, but also recruit top talents from across the 44 local government areas of the state to drive health sector transformation.
The committee's role is vital in ensuring a transparent, merit-based, and all-inclusive selection process for health fellows. These fellows will play a pivotal role in advancing the healthcare system, and the committee's selection process will be based on merit and a track record of dedication.
The committee is chaired by Dr. Mayana Sanusi Abubakar, State Coordinator of the World Health Organization, with Dr. Nura Abubakar, State Coordinator Sector-Wide Approach Project, serving as secretary. Other members include Director Public Health and Disease Control of the Ministry, Dr. Ibrahim Aliyu Gano, and representatives from various healthcare institutions.
In response to the inauguration, Dr. Mayana Sanusi Abubakar assured the commissioner that the committee would discharge its responsibilities with due diligence, transparency, equity, and gender equality.
This initiative is a significant step towards improving healthcare services in Kano state, and the committee's work will be crucial in achieving this goal.
