In a significant step towards ensuring a sustainable power supply across Kano State, Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has distributed 500 electricity transformers to all 44 Local Government Areas.

Flagging off the distribution at the Rural Electricity Board (REB), Maganda Road on Sunday, Governor Yusuf announced that the 500 transformers were procured from reputable companies outside Nigeria.

In a statement issued by the Governor's spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf expressed his immense pride in this first phase of distribution.

“I stand before you today with great pride for this first phase of the distribution of 500 units of various types of transformers across the 44 Local Government Areas.” he stated.

The Governor emphasized that this initiative marks a crucial milestone in fulfilling his administration's campaign promises, particularly to rural communities that have long been deprived of access to electricity.

“Today's ceremony marks another milestone in fulfilling one of our campaign promises for the good people of Kano State, especially rural communities that have been deprived of access to electricity for quite a long time,” the governor stressed.

He further highlighted the importance of reliable electricity, stating that:

“Access to reliable and stable electricity is not just a basic need; it is a powerful catalyst for economic growth, industrial development, improved healthcare, quality education, and, of course, the overall social well-being of our people.”

Governor Yusuf revealed that the project is a collaborative effort between the state government and the 44 Local Government Councils.

The newly acquired transformers include 500, 300, and 200 KVA units, which will be distributed to communities based on their specific needs.

He appealed to residents to protect and safeguard the transformers installed in their communities to ensure their sustainability and contribute to societal progress.

The Governor also assured the public that more alternative energy supplies would be provided to all areas of the state to ensure adequate electricity for the rapid development of small and medium businesses.

Governor Yusuf also announced that the state-owned Electricity Company has begun evacuating power from the 10-megawatt Tiga Hydrow-Power Generation Plant.

He expressed confidence that this project would significantly boost energy supply and, consequently, the state's economy.

The Governor then appreciated the support of all stakeholders who made this partnership possible.

Earlier, the State Commissioner of Rural and Community Development, Alhaji AbdulKadir Abdulsalam, described the initiative as a “milestone achievement” for community development, especially for small-scale businesses, and for lighting schools and places of worship.

In her remarks, the State ALGON Chairperson, Hajiya Sa'adu Yusha'u, praised the “giant stride” of providing transformers to  various communities, noting that it would enhance the existing peaceful atmosphere in the state.

On his part, Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Muhammad Muhammad Maharaz, acknowledged the rapid development being provided by the current administration, which he said is simplifying living conditions for communities.
