By Ibrahim Muhammad

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed a thorough investigation into the alleged involvement of the State Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, in the bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.

The governor's directive follows widespread public outcry over reports that the commissioner's name appeared in official documents facilitating the suspect's release.

The governor's spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.

According to the statement, Governor Yusuf has set up a special investigative committee to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and recommend appropriate actions.

The committee, chaired by Barrister Aminu Hussain, the governor's Special Adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters, comprises six other members, including legal experts, retired military personnel, and civil society representatives.

The members are: Barrister Hamza Haladu, Barrister Hamza Nuhu Dantani, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud Umar, Major General Sani Muhammad (Rtd.), Comrade Kabiru Said Dakata, and Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota, who will serve as the secretary.

Governor Yusuf expressed serious concern over the alleged misconduct, reiterating his administration's commitment to fighting drug abuse and other social vices in the state.

The governor's directive demonstrates his determination to ensure transparency and accountability in the administration of justice.

The establishment of the investigative committee is a significant step towards getting to the bottom of the matter. The committee's findings and recommendations will likely determine the next course of action, including possible disciplinary measures against those found culpable.

The investigation will also provide an opportunity for the governor to demonstrate his commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that those involved in illicit activities are brought to justice.

The people of Kano State will be watching closely to see how this matter unfolds, and it remains to be seen what the outcome of the investigation will be.
