The Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity and Development Initiative, ACI, has called on leaders to take urgent action to end the killings and insecurity in Northern Nigeria.
The Director General of ACI, Dr. Abdullahi Idris, made the call on Sunday during a press statement to mark the 2025 International Day of Peace. This year’s theme is “Act Now for a Peaceful World.”
Dr. Idris said the North has suffered too much from banditry, terrorism, kidnappings, and clashes between farmers and herders. He added that many states, including Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, and Plateau, remain under serious attacks.
He criticized northern elites for spending more energy on big social events instead of finding solutions to insecurity. He also accused security agencies of failing to act quickly on intelligence.
According to him, poverty, illiteracy, and unemployment are making things worse, and the region needs leaders who value integrity, peace, and service above wealth and power.
He said the Federal Government must move beyond empty promises and make the protection of lives its top priority.
ACI also urged northerners to reject division and embrace unity, stressing that dialogue and inclusion are the keys to peace.
The group promised to carry out enlightenment campaigns across the North to promote good governance and peacebuilding.
Dr. Idris called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all northern governors to visit victims, support security agencies, and act decisively to protect lives.
He warned that history would not forgive leaders who fail to act, saying: “The time for action is now.”
