The Northern Youths Merger Group of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for a second term as Nigerian President. This endorsement recognises his performance and developmental projects in Northern states and the country. The endorsement was contained in a press release signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Hon. Musa Mujahid Zaitawa, and made available to journalists on Sunday.
The group cited projects in the North, including the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressway, Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, and the Kano-Maiduguri Dual Carriageway. Other projects include the reconstruction of the Dikwa-Gamboru-Ngala Road in Borno State. In the rail sector, ongoing work includes the Kaduna-Kano and Kano-Maradi Rail Line linking the Niger Republic, and allocation for the Kaduna Light Rail System.
The agriculture sector has seen federal investment through initiatives like the $158.15 million Agriculture Value Chain project for nine Northern states, the Kolmani Integrated Development Project, and the World Bank-funded ACReSAL programme. Health sector developments include expansions at facilities like Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria, and Federal Medical Centre, Nguru.
Other projects mentioned include the Ajaokuta, Kaduna, Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline, Gwagwalada Power Plant, and the proposed ABIBA Solar Power Station in Kaduna. The Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) policy aims to reduce fuel demand. Educational funds and soft loans for students have also been introduced.
The group noted the country's economic growth under Tinubu's administration, with GDP growth stronger than in previous quarters.
The latest GDP shows the country’s economic growth rate is stronger than the 3.48% recorded in Q2 2024 and the 3.13% posted in Q1 2025. .
They commended Tinubu's efforts in tackling insurgency and kidnapping, and allocating funds for constituency projects.
The group challenged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, questioning their contributions to Nigeria's development. The National Coordinator called on Northern youths to support Tinubu's continuity in 2027, planning mass peaceful rallies in 19 states.
