The chicken has finally come home to roost.
He was wholeheartedly trusted by the late President Muhammadu Buhari (may the Almighty Allah continue to bless his soul and grant him eternal repose), but he betrayed him profoundly—betrayed Buhari’s followers, betrayed the APC, the party that swept the nation like a tsunami in 2015 with promises of change.
As Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, he was constitutionally the Chief Legal Officer, Chief Prosecutor, and paragon of justice. He ought to have been the driver of the war against corruption and the fight against organized and syndicated crime such as banditry, human, drug and arms trafficking, money laundering, and terrorism financing.
Instead, he came after me viciously and ruthlessly for carrying out the assignment given to me by the Federal Government: to recover stolen assets, move against those who abused their positions and acquired ill‑gotten wealth, and confront promoters and saboteurs of national economic devastation. When I performed my duties diligently, professionally, fearlessly, courageously, and uncompromisingly—without ill will or favoritism—he became discomfited. He conspired with those I had moved against to set me up, subjecting me to unprecedented witch‑hunt, victimization, ill‑motivated prosecution, intimidation, and harassment. He hated me and sneered, “Didn’t you know it was my government?”
But the Bible declares: “The soul that sinneth, it shall die.”
History will judge, and truth will ultimately vindicate those who stand for justice without fear or favor.
