Nigeria has been plagued by insecurity, including terrorism, banditry, and other forms of criminality, for over a decade, resulting in the loss of countless lives and destruction of property. The recent designation of Nigeria as a country of particular concern by the United States is a stark reminder of the country's failure to address these issues. This development has sparked widespread concern among Nigerians, who are demanding decisive action to tackle the security challenge.

The resignation of Defence Minister Alh. Badaru and the nomination of General Christopher Gwabin Musa as his replacement have sparked debate. While some critics question Musa's ability to bring new solutions, others see his appointment as a welcome development, signaling a renewed commitment to tackling insecurity. General Musa's experience as Chief of Defence Staff and his track record in addressing security challenges make him a strong candidate for the position.

However, Nigeria needs more than just a change in leadership; it needs a new approach to address its complex security challenges. The current situation demands leaders who are resolute, experienced, and willing to take bold action. In this context, appointing Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi as Minister of Defence for State, would be a masterstroke. Ali-Keffi's experience and no-nonsense attitude make him an ideal partner for General Musa.

Ali-Keffi's track record as a seasoned warrior and leader is well-documented. His experience in Liberia and other missions, as well as his success in various Nigerian operations, make him an asset in the fight against insecurity. His appointment would send a strong signal that the government is serious about addressing the security challenge.

The stakes are high, and the consequences of failure are unthinkable. Nigeria must address the underlying causes of insecurity, including poverty, unemployment, and social inequality. The government must also equip, train, and motivate security agencies to tackle the challenge. Prioritizing intelligence gathering, community engagement, and local involvement is crucial.

The media must also play a critical role in highlighting security challenges and holding the government accountable. Journalists must be courageous and diligent in their reporting, shedding light on the complexities of the security situation and the efforts being made to address it.

The appointment of General Musa and Ali-Keffi would be a significant step towards addressing the security challenge. With their combined experience and expertise, they can provide the necessary leadership and vision to address the security crisis. The international community, particularly the United States, has expressed willingness to partner with Nigeria in this endeavor. Now is the time for Nigerians to rally behind their leaders and demand action.

In conclusion, Nigeria's security imperative demands decisive action. Appointing General Musa and Ali-Keffi would be a significant step, but it's only the beginning. The government must demonstrate its commitment to addressing insecurity's root causes and provide necessary resources. The stakes are high, and failure is unthinkable. Let's trash this nonsense once and for all!
