The Northern Youths Merger Group (APC) has distanced itself from the recent remarks made by Engineer Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Governor of Kano State and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, in which he criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s handling of the nation’s security challenges.

In a press statement signed by its National Coordinator, Hon. Musa Mujahid Zaitawa, the group expressed deep disappointment over Kwankwaso’s comments, describing them as “baseless” and “shameful.” Zaitawa noted that Kwankwaso has repeatedly opposed successive governments without just cause, recalling his past criticisms of former President Goodluck Jonathan and his current stance against the APC-led administration.

According to the group, Kwankwaso lacks the moral standing to issue such statements, given his past roles as Minister of Defence, Governor, and Senator. They questioned why he would choose this critical moment—when President Tinubu is making concerted efforts to resolve the nation’s security challenges—to undermine the administration with what they called unfounded allegations.

The statement also pointed out the dwindling support for Kwankwaso among his former allies, including Senator Kawu Sumaila, several National Assembly members, and other influential figures who have since abandoned his political camp.

The Northern Youths Merger Group further alleged that Kwankwaso is conspiring to use the Kano State Government to politicize insecurity in the state. They claimed he is attempting to level unfounded accusations against former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin as part of a strategy to portray the Tinubu administration as ineffective ahead of the 2027 elections, thereby steering Kano voters away from the APC.

The group warned Kwankwaso to desist from making inciting or divisive statements capable of provoking youths into unlawful actions that could destabilize the state or the country.

Meanwhile, the NYMG commended President Tinubu for his ongoing efforts to strengthen national security, including the appointment of a new Minister of Defence and the approval of funds to support farmers across Northern Nigeria.
