On 24 December 2025, to my chagrin and consternation, I discovered that META had disabled my two Facebook accounts and my Instagram account. I opened the Facebook accounts around 2008 and the Instagram account many years later, but eventually merged them a few years ago. I have always striven to scrupulously abide by META’s community standards. Therefore, I was flummoxed when META suspended my accounts, as I firmly believe I did not violate any of its regulations.
META requested that I upload my identification, which I duly did. However, instead of restoring my accounts, META informed me that they would be suspended for 180 days, and that at the end of the suspension period, I might not recover them.
I suspect that detractors, piqued by my writings exposing corruption and promoting respect for human rights and accountability, may have conspired to mislead META. Unfortunately, META failed to give me an opportunity to be heard regarding these phantom allegations. This constitutes an egregious violation of my fundamental right to fair hearing.
Consequently, I have lodged a complaint against META for infringement of my consumer and fundamental rights under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission Act, 2018. Should the FCCPC fail to resolve this matter satisfactorily, I will file a complaint against META Platforms Incorporated before the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal in Abuja to seek appropriate redress.
In conclusion, I remain committed to defending my rights and ensuring accountability in the digital space.
