Former Minister of Transportation, Engr. Mu’azu Sambo Jaji, has declared his intention to contest the Taraba State governorship seat in 2027, saying he will not step down for incumbent Governor Agbu Kefas ahead of the APC primary.
Jaji announced at a press conference in Jalingo on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.
“Today is not merely about politics. It is about purpose, about the future of our people, and about the soul and destiny of Taraba State,” he said.
The former minister said his decision was driven by calls from across the state for “a better Taraba” — one where farmers are empowered, youths engaged, women supported, and communities secured. He lamented that Taraba was becoming a negative reference point among Nigerian states, adding that his heart “yearns daily for a better Taraba.”
Jaji argued that the change Tarabans seek must come from within. He said there was no reason Taraba could not host industries, become Nigeria’s tourism capital, export agricultural produce, and generate one of the highest internally generated revenues in the country.
“I have decided not to remain on the fence complaining, but to join the race, standing firmly on the Renewed Hope mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
He pledged to run on a platform of transparency, accountability, inclusive governance, and human and infrastructural development if given the mandate.
Jaji served as Minister of Transportation under the Buhari administration and is now positioning himself for the 2027 APC gubernatorial primary.
