The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kano State has commenced the sale of nomination forms for all elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections, ranging from the presidency to Senate, governorship, and federal and state legislative seats.

The development was confirmed by the Kano State Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Rabiu Saleh Wangal, who said the party has established a secretariat and a special committee to handle the process. He noted that aspirants are already turning out in large numbers to obtain forms across different levels.

In a bid to maintain order, Hon. Wangal said the party has introduced a new policy banning aspirants from bringing crowds when purchasing forms.
“Mob action during form collection is no longer acceptable. We are committed to conducting our activities in a peaceful and structured way,” he explained.

Where multiple aspirants are vying for the same position, the party has set up a reconciliation committee led by the Deputy Chairman of the PDP in Kano, Alhaji Ali Karza. The committee is tasked with mediating and presenting a single, most qualified candidate. Hon. Wangal added that the process has already been completed for several local government aspirants, all of whom have now collected their forms.

He stressed that the PDP in Kano now operates as a single, united body under the leadership of Engr. Dr. Bello Gambo Bichi. He advised anyone doubting the party’s legitimate leadership to verify it through INEC’s official portal, warning that anyone falsely claiming to be chairman will face legal action.

Hon. Wangal also praised the PDP national leadership for promoting unity in the state, saying the party is witnessing an influx of new members. He explained that some politicians defected to the PDP after being denied democratic opportunities elsewhere.

In a move to encourage inclusion, the party has approved discounted nomination fees for women and youths. Women will pay only 5 percent of the standard fee, while aspirants under 40 years will pay 50 percent of the amount fixed by the national party.

Addressing recent defections of some senior PDP members in Kano, Hon. Wangal dismissed concerns that it would weaken the party. “It is not the so-called bigwigs who keep the party alive. The real force is the young men and women who go out daily to mobilize for the PDP. They remain with us, and by God’s grace, PDP will win Kano and form the next government,” he said.

He concluded by urging Kano residents to prioritize competence over patronage in the coming elections. “This is not the time for choosing leaders based on patronage. We are calling on all well-meaning individuals to support PDP candidates so we can achieve victory together,” he stated.
