Kano Electricity Distribution Plc (KEDCO) has apologized to its customers in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa States for recent power supply disruptions. The outages result from national grid disturbances and vandalism damaging two towers on the 330kV Shiroro-Kaduna transmission lines.

According to Dr. Abubakar Jimeta, KEDCO's Chief Commercial Officer, the damaged towers (T133 and T136) have complicated efforts to stabilize power supply. Despite ongoing attempts to reclose tripped lines, KEDCO is sourcing bulk power through the alternate 330kV Kaduna-Jos transmission line, albeit with load limitations.

Dr. Jimeta assured customers that KEDCO is working closely with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to expedite repairs. Emergency restoration efforts are underway.

To address long-term power challenges, KEDCO is expanding its renewable energy capacity and implementing MiniGrid solutions through its core investor, Future Energies Africa (FEA). This will provide more stable and sustainable electricity.

Dr. Jimeta urged the public to report suspicious activities related to electrical infrastructure via 070055551111. Several arrests and prosecutions have been made in connection with recent vandalism.

KEDCO pledged to provide regular updates and appealed for customers' patience and cooperation during this challenging period.
