Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has made a passionate appeal to the Federal Government to reduce the 2025 Hajj fare, considering the economic challenges faced by citizens.
The governor made this appeal during a ceremony organized by the state Pilgrims Welfare Board to refund N375 million to 2023 Kano pilgrims, courtesy of the Saudi Arabian Government.
The refund was a result of a power outage during the 2023 Hajj operations, and Governor Yusuf commended the Saudi Arabian Government for their gesture and concern for humanity.
He also expressed appreciation to the National Hajj Commission for their prudence and timely payment. The governor promised to send an appreciation letter to the Saudi government through their consulate in Kano State.
Governor Yusuf also expressed delight over the successful Hajj operations conducted by the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, which was recognized as the best in the country.
He urged them to maintain their good work in future operations. The governor recently visited Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser Hajj and prepare for the next Hajj, aiming to identify areas where the state government can intervene further.
The state Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, who headed the 2024 Kano Hajj Delegates, appreciated Governor Yusuf's support for the pilgrims before, during, and after the Hajj exercise.
The Board Director General, Alhaji Laminu Rabiu Danbaffa, noted that the total amount refunded to the state through the National Hajj Commission was N375 million.
The appeal for a reduction in the 2025 Hajj fare comes as the cost of the pilgrimage is expected to exceed N10 million, making it difficult for intending pilgrims to afford.
The Kano State Government has shown its commitment to supporting pilgrims, having approved a N1.4 billion subsidy for intending pilgrims from the state to mitigate the sudden increase in the 2024 Hajj fare.
