The Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Plateau State, as well as the family of former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, who passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 82.

General Useni's demise was announced in a statement issued by the Governor's spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. According to the statement, General Useni had been battling a protracted illness before his passing. 

Governor Yusuf described General Useni's death as a monumental loss, not only to his family but also to the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the nation as a whole.

Governor Yusuf praised General Useni's legacy of distinguished service, unwavering patriotism, and his profound contributions to Nigeria's security and governance. 

He highlighted General Useni's relentless dedication to fostering peace and security, particularly in Northern Nigeria and his home state of Plateau. General Useni's exemplary leadership and selfless commitment to the nation will remain etched in the hearts of Nigerians.

General Useni had a storied career in the Nigerian Army, serving with distinction for decades. He rose to the rank of Quartermaster General, overseeing the logistical and material needs of the Armed Forces.

After retiring from the military, General Useni transitioned into politics, serving as Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and later as Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District in 2015 under the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Governor Yusuf remembered General Useni as a true patriot whose life was defined by service, courage, and an enduring commitment to the betterment of Nigeria. 

He noted that General Useni's tireless efforts to promote harmony and progress will continue to inspire generations to come.

The news of General Useni's passing has sent shockwaves across the nation, with many paying tribute to his remarkable life and legacy. 

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the army, political associates, and the people of Plateau State.

Governor Yusuf prayed for the repose of General Useni's soul and urged his family and the people of Plateau State to find solace in the remarkable legacy of a life well-lived in service to God, country, and humanity.
