Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has charged local government councillors to serve as a direct link between the government and the grassroots by identifying pressing community needs and channeling them for immediate intervention.

This was contained in a statement issued by governor’s spokesperson Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Sunday

Speaking during a crucial meeting with councillors from the 484 wards of the state at the Government House, Governor Yusuf emphasized that the time has come to shift focus toward real development that touches the lives of ordinary citizens.

“You are the eyes and ears of government at the grassroots. Go back to your wards, listen to the people, and bring forward their most urgent needs. Once you do that, we will act,” the governor stated.

He pointed out that the government has already earmarked nearly N5 billion to support ward-level projects aimed at fixing basic infrastructure, such as dilapidated classrooms, blocked drainage systems, and other community-based challenges.

Governor Yusuf stressed the importance of sincerity, transparency, and dedication in ensuring the funds are used for projects that will have direct impact on the people.

“This fund is meant to uplift our communities, not for politics or favoritism. Every kobo must be accounted for, and every project must reflect the real needs of the people,” he said.

The initiative is part of the administration’s broader strategy to strengthen local governance and ensure that no community is left behind in Kano’s development agenda.
