Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf today inspected the ongoing fabrication of the second phase of a project to provide 16,800 primary school seats, a project under the supervision of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
This was contained in statement issued by the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad Sunday.
According to the statement, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was received at the fabrication site, located at the Kano Trade Fair Complex, by the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, and the SUBEB Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Kabir.
The statement further said that Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the contractors for the high quality of their work.
He assured that more seats would be provided to primary schools across the state.
Governor Yusuf emphasised that the mass fabrication of these seats is a mission of his administration's plan to eliminate the practice of students sitting on the bare floor in public schools.
The Governor highlighted that the declaration of a state of emergency in education by his administration is aimed at a comprehensive overhaul of the sector, with a view of creating a conducive learning environment throughout the state.
He disclosed that a date for the distribution of the seats to the relevant agencies would be communicated soon.
Governor Yusuf then commended the Ministry of Education and SUBEB for their dedication to ensuring that the required standards of quality work are maintained.
Earlier, in their separate remarks, Commissioner of Education Dr. Makoda and SUBEB Chairman Kabir lauded Governor Yusuf's foresight in declaring an emergency in education, noting that the initiative is already yielding positive results.
