Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has received the leadership of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) at the Government House in Kano, marking a renewed and strategic partnership between the state and the Federal Government aimed at transforming the basic education sector.
According to a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the visit underscores a shared commitment to addressing the alarming number of out-of-school children in the state.
While receiving the UBEC delegation, led by its Executive Secretary Dr. Aisha Garba, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s determination to overhaul the basic education system and ensure that every child in Kano has access to quality, inclusive education.
Governor Yusuf emphasized the state's continued investment in education infrastructure, with particular focus on provision of school furniture, teaching materials, and creating a more conducive learning environment.
“Our goal is simple but urgent — to get every child off the street and into the classroom. We are working closely with UBEC and other partners to provide the infrastructure, manpower, and policy reforms needed to make this vision a reality,” the Governor stated.
In her remarks, Dr. Aisha Garba commended Governor Yusuf for what she described as "giant strides" in education reform, praising Kano State’s proactive leadership in confronting one of Nigeria’s most pressing developmental challenges.
“Kano is taking bold steps in education reform. With Governor Yusuf’s leadership and the support of UBEC, we are confident that the tide of illiteracy will be reversed,” she said.
The visit marks a significant milestone in strengthening federal-state collaboration to ensure every Nigerian child receives the foundational education they deserve, particularly in states with high numbers of out-of-school children.
