The Kano State Government and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ungogo Branch have pledged to partner in strengthening the rule of law in the state. This commitment was made during the opening ceremony of the 2025 Law Week, themed "The Rule of Law in a Democratic Society."

The Secretary to the State Government highlighted the administration's efforts to strengthen the justice sector, including recruiting 70 new state counsels, capacity building for legal officers, and providing modern office equipment.

He emphasized the importance of upholding the independence of the judiciary and promoting access to justice, particularly for vulnerable members of society.

The NBA Ungogo Branch Chairman emphasized the importance of the rule of law in democracy, saying it's the "soul of any genuine democracy."

He highlighted the branch's achievements, including advocacy for prison decongestion, protecting human rights, and launching "The Ungogo Bar Voice" publication. The branch also plans to organize a "Law and Order Summit" to address insecurity and youth restiveness in Kano and the broader northern region.

Both parties have expressed commitment to working together to promote access to justice, defend constitutionalism, and champion democratic values in Kano State.

The partnership aims to build a just and lawful society, where the rights of citizens are protected and the powers of the state are properly checked.

The event brought together legal professionals, scholars, and stakeholders to discuss the importance of the rule of law in democracy and how to promote it in Kano State.

The Law Week is expected to provide a platform for critical discussions, networking, and collaboration among stakeholders.
