The Kano State Government has issued a stern directive mandating full compliance to all traffic regulations across the state, as part of its renewed commitment to urban development and public safety.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sinday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, the directive follows the government’s massive investment—running into billions of naira—towards beautifying and modernizing Kano in line with global urban planning standards.
The administration has undertaken the installation of state-of-the-art street lighting systems, road signage, and traffic infrastructure aimed at enhancing night-time visibility, reducing road accidents, and promoting a culture of orderliness on Kano roads.
However, despite these efforts, the government expressed deep disappointment over the increasing number of residents and motorists who blatantly ignore traffic signs, violate safety protocols, and fail to respect the newly installed public infrastructure particularly the traffic lights.
In response, Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to immediately commence full-scale enforcement operations to ensure strict compliance with all traffic laws—particularly the strict compliance with traffic lights in the metropolis.
The government further clarified that only emergency service vehicles such as fire trucks, ambulances, and security agencies on official duty are permitted to bypass traffic rules when responding to emergencies.
All other motorists are expected to obey traffic regulations without any exceptions.
The government warned that henceforth, any individual or group found sabotaging these urban renewal efforts or flouting traffic laws will face the full weight of the law.
It is also directed that any public official who interfere with operations of road traffic officers by way of attempting to secure a favour for traffic offenders shall be reported to the appropreciate authority as such action will be viewed a sabotage to the present administration.
This decisive move underscores the determination of the Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf administration to build a safe, modern, and livable mega city for all.
