Kano State has been singled out for exceptional commendation by the World Bank and the Federal Government following a high-level review of the Sustainable Power and Irrigation Project (SPIN) in Abuja.

During the Final Support Mission, the State Project Coordinator, Engr. Nuraddeen Isah Abubakar, led Kano’s SPIN team in delivering a detailed presentation on the state’s progress, innovations, and long-term engineering strategy.

The delegation’s report drew strong applause for demonstrating both technical depth and visionary planning.

The World Bank team highlighted Kano’s groundbreaking work in deploying modern, technology-enhanced water and irrigation systems.

These include digital canal surveillance tools, remote-control mechanisms for water flow, intelligent dam and reservoir optimization, and advanced hydrological modeling for improved sediment and water management.

Officials described Kano’s approach as “transformational,” noting that the innovations introduced under the SPIN program position the state as a front-runner in sustainable agriculture and water resource modernization.

Engr. Abubakar credited the success to the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who has consistently championed engineering excellence and long-term infrastructure development.

“Governor Yusuf’s commitment to modernizing irrigation and energy systems has set a new standard for project execution and accountability. SPIN in Kano is not only functional  it is delivering pioneering results,” he said.

Kano is currently building large-scale irrigation networks, reinforcing energy access, and laying the structural foundations required for a globally competitive agro-industrial sector.

The recognition from the World Bank marks a major milestone for the state, underscoring its rising profile as a leader in innovation-driven development.
