The volume is a terse documentary and commentary on the achievements of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, within just one year in office, cross-examining his lofty agenda straddling Agriculture, Religious Affairs, security, health care delivery, infrastructural development, water supply, empowerment programmes, that are rapidly giving a new phase of development to the state.
The text is neatly structured into six chapters, with selected speeches of His Excellency, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, forming appendices.
Chapter One: Overview of Sokoto State:
The chapter provides a clear overview of Sokoto state's geography, history, and people, highlighting its cultural heritage. It notes that the state is dominated by Hausa/Fulani ethnic elements, despite the presence of other Nigerian tribes. A list of tribes in Sokoto since colonial times is provided for enhanced understanding. The chapter concludes that ethnicity is not as bad as portrayed and is a product of deep historical processes that benefits Nigerian unity. Governor Ahmad Aliyu's policies and appointments in his first year promote unity in the state and the nation at large.
Chapter Two: The Political Generalissimo:
This chapter focuses on the political life of Alhaji Aliyu Magatarkada Wamakko, described as "Father Figure in Sokoto Politics". It explores his early life, civil service career, political ideas, and awards. The chapter concludes that Wamakko's impact on Sokoto politics will be long-lasting.
Chapter Three: Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto - Mr. Project:
The chapter documents Governor Ahmad Aliyu's early life, education, honors, and awards, as well as his emergence as the fourth democratic governor of Sokoto State since 1999. It concludes that most expectations of the people will be met by the end of his tenure.
Chapter Four: The Nine Lofty Agenda:
This chapter examines Governor Ahmad Aliyu's nine agenda items, arguing they are holistic and noble, covering major life priorities. The agenda drives the administration, with significant progress made in the first year. However, there's still much to be done in the coming years.
Chapter Five: Key Achievements:
The chapter surveys key achievements of the administration in its first year, citing the governor's words: "we cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about the progress and prosperity of our community...". It notes numerous tangible and intangible achievements, concluding the administration started strong and can be deemed successful if it maintains its tempo.
Chapter Six: Key Personalities in the Administration:
This chapter chronicles biographies of key personalities, including the Deputy Governor, Chief of Staff, and commissioners. The aim is to document their contributions for posterity, as they often get forgotten.
In conclusion, this compilation showcases the creativity, innovativeness, and progressiveness of Governor Ahmad Aliyu's administration, fulfilling Socrates' thesis that "an unexamined life is not worth living". The administration appears worthy, having been examined and scrutinized in this text.
