The spokesperson to the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano is operating as a united political bloc and is fully prepared for future elections.
Dawakin Tofa made the statement on Sunday during an appearance on Trust TV’s _Sunday Politics_, where he responded to comments made earlier by former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Kwankwaso had suggested that the current governor would regret leaving his political camp to join the APC.
Defending the governor’s decision, Dawakin Tofa said leadership sometimes requires difficult but necessary choices. “Errors in judgment can be forgiven in politics, but failure to take firm and timely decisions often carries long-term consequences,” he said.
He described the governor’s move to the APC as a calculated step to strengthen governance and political alignment in Kano, noting that the impact is already visible in the party’s improved coordination and cohesion.
Dawakin Tofa also addressed Kwankwaso’s criticism of political defections, pointing to what he called inconsistencies in the former governor’s own political record. He noted that Kwankwaso had moved from the NNPP to the ADC and then to the NDC within a short period.
“Political actors must be cautious in condemning actions they themselves have engaged in. That is a contradiction in public narrative,” he said.
He further claimed that Kwankwaso’s brief involvement in the ADC coincided with internal disagreements and factional tensions. According to him, Kwankwaso engaged with different blocs within the party, including the David Mark-led faction and individuals aligned with Na’fiu Bala, which he said contributed to confusion in the party structure at the time.
Despite ongoing political debates, Dawakin Tofa insisted that the APC in Kano remains united and focused. He said internal structures had been strengthened, with leaders and members working in coordination toward upcoming contests.
“The party’s current cohesion is a key factor that will enhance its performance in upcoming elections. APC is not distracted by external political commentary,” he added.
He concluded that the APC’s strength in Kano lies in its unity and clarity of purpose, describing the party as “ready for the political tasks ahead.”
