By Ibrahim Muhammad Kano

While some individuals claiming to be caretaker leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State, along with party stakeholders, have again declared Malam Ibrahim Khalil as the party’s legitimate gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 elections, a chieftain of the party has refuted the claim.

At a press conference held in Kano, the group announced that they had endorsed Ibrahim Khalil as their governorship candidate.

However, a senior chieftain of the ADC at the national level, who requested anonymity, told our correspondent that those who made the declaration have no authority to do so.

“At the moment, the ADC has no leadership structure in Kano. The tenure of the state caretaker committee expired on May 19. It is the national body that is currently preparing to appoint new caretaker leaders. Therefore, what is being circulated has no basis whatsoever,” the chieftain said.

The chieftain further stated that, as of now, the ADC national body has not confirmed who its gubernatorial candidate for Kano State is.

All efforts to get an official response from the ADC national leadership regarding its position on the governorship aspirants in Kano were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the leading contenders for the ADC governorship ticket in Kano are believed to include Alhaji Ibrahim Al-Amin Little and Malam Ibrahim Khalil.
