The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, Kano State Chapter, has resolved to support the people of Kano State in areas where it has expertise in accounting. The aim is to ensure that all their needs are met and to also work toward providing comfort and welfare for its members.
The Chairman of ICAN Kano State, Alhaji Jamilu Abullahi Daihur  said:

He said ICAN is facing some challenges, especially the lack of a permanent office. The place they are currently using is temporary, provided to them by the Kano State Government at the Murtala Muhammad Library complex.

He added that they are also facing a challenge from the people of Kano State themselves lack of interest in joining ICAN. He said ICAN  chapter in the state is  for the people of Kano, but many people are still not interested in joining.

He called on the people of Kano to join the ICAN organization. He said it is very beneficial and both the government and the community stand to gain from it.

He said the process of joining ICAN is very easy because the lectures given are free. Even for those at the entry level, they offer free lectures. For those at the professional level, they even help source for sponsors to assist people by paying their exam fees.

He said the requirements to join ICAN at the first level are: a WAEC or NECO Senior Secondary School certificate with at least five credits including Mathematics and English. And any course of study is accepted as long as it includes Mathematics and English  once a person comes, they will register him/her.

He further explained that at the higher level, which is for degree or HND holders: anyone with a degree or HND certificate can become a member. There is no requirement that you must have studied Accounting, Economics, or any course related to Accounting, Science, Technology, or Engineering. Once you have a degree or HND, you will be registered.

He lamented that considering the population of Kano State and the number of business people, there are still not enough accountants. That is why ICAN is making efforts to sensitize the public to join.

Jamilu Abdullahi Daihur, the Chairman of ICAN Kano, said that even now when people are complaining about unemployment, the jobs are actually there. But people are refusing to embrace it. That is why he said anyone who wants a job, if they become an accountant, God willing, they will have a job in their hands.
