Thousands of supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from across Northern Nigeria on Saturday converged on the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano for the inauguration of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) State Executive Council and the formal reception of 136,000 new members into the ruling party.
The event was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The gathering attracted APC supporters, political stakeholders, community leaders, youth and women groups from Kano and other parts of Northern Nigeria.
The large turnout highlighted the growing political mobilisation and activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Among the prominent personalities who joined the APC were Senator Sani Rufa’i Hanga, Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, Senator Baraka Sani, and political associates of former Deputy Governor, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.
The new members were formally received into the party amid cheers and solidarity from thousands of APC supporters at the stadium.
The occasion also featured the inauguration of the TSG State Executive Council, with Hon. Baffa Babba Dan’agundi inaugurated as the Coordinator of the TSG for the Northwest Zone, alongside other state and zonal executives.
The Tinubu Support Group is expected to strengthen grassroots mobilisation, sensitise citizens on the policies and programmes of the Federal Government, and mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, supported the event as part of efforts to provide platforms for political stakeholders and citizens to participate actively in the democratic process.
The state government also reaffirmed its commitment to initiatives that promote political participation, unity, peaceful engagement and democratic governance.
The gathering ended with supporters and newly admitted APC members expressing confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party.
The massive turnout further underscored Kano’s strategic position as a major political centre in Northern Nigeria and the growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
