The Kano State Government has commenced a free screening exercise for hypertension and diabetes as part of the Project 10 million Campaign, a nationwide initiative aimed at addressing non-communicable diseases.

Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, the State Commissioner for Health, urged residents to take advantage of the exercise to confirm their health status. Those found with the diseases will receive free drugs and/or be referred to the nearest facility for continued monitoring.

The commissioner advised residents to bring their families to the screening centers across the state for free screening, which normally would be a paid service.

The week-long exercise aims to screen one million people across the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state. Dr. Labaran commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his concern for the state's health and thanked partners and stakeholders for their support.

This initiative is particularly important in Kano State, where dietary diversity and nutrition have been areas of concern.

By participating in the screening exercise, residents can take proactive steps towards maintaining their health and well-being.
