Nigeria's Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, has stepped into the "EndBad Governance" protests case, calling for the police to transfer the case file to his office.
This move comes after the police arraigned protesters in court on charges including treason.
Fagbemi, who became the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice on August 21, 2023, has directed the Nigeria Police to hand over the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF) by November 2, 2024.
The DPPF will then review the case and explore the possibility of bringing the adjournment date forward from January.
The "EndBad Governance" protests, which have been ongoing, have seen millions of Nigerians demand radical governance transformation.
The protests have highlighted the nation's widespread dissatisfaction with its current governance.
As the Attorney General, Fagbemi has vowed to deliver on the Renew Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing the Ministry of Justice's strategic position in the country.
With his intervention in the "EndBad Governance" protests case, Fagbemi aims to ensure justice is served and address the concerns of the Nigerian people.
This development may signal a shift in the government's approach to addressing the protesters' concerns and ensuring justice is served.
