Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has vowed to fully implement the recommendations of the Committee of Inquiry on the End Bad Governance Protest, which occurred on August 1, 2024.
The governor made this pledge while receiving the report from the committee's chairman, Justice Lawan Wada (rtd.), during the 25th Kano State Executive Council meeting at Government House.
The report revealed that the violent protest resulted in the loss of 10 lives, seven critical injuries, and the destruction of public and private properties worth over N11 billion. Governor Yusuf assured that a white paper would be issued, identifying those responsible for sponsoring and perpetrating the violent protest. This move aims to serve as a deterrent to those who incite violence and destruction.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that his administration did not interfere with the committee's six-month-long investigation, allowing members to carry out their duties without bias.
He commended the committee for their diligence and professionalism, stating, "I have confidence in the integrity and professionalism of the committee members. They were selected based on merit, and I am optimistic that they have done their job without bias."
The governor also urged the committee to be prepared for future assignments, should the government require their expertise.
Justice Wada, while presenting the report, disclosed that the committee visited all affected areas and engaged stakeholders to compile a comprehensive account of the protest's impact.
The governor's commitment to implementing the report's recommendations is a significant step towards promoting accountability and justice in Kano State.
This move demonstrates the government's resolve to address the root causes of the protest and prevent similar incidents in the future.
By implementing the report's recommendations, Governor Yusuf aims to restore peace and stability in Kano State, while also ensuring that those responsible for the violent protest are held accountable for their actions.
