Hon. Nura Abubakar Maikarfi Dala, aide to Kano Central Senator, Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga, has said that Hanga stepping down from the senatorial race in favor of Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna is not new to anyone who follows his political journey and ideology.
Maikarfi said anyone who knows Senator Hanga knows he is a politician, not just a candidate. “He is an activist who wants to see change and development. Even the senator seat he holds now, during the last election he stepped down and gave it to Senator Ibrahim Shekarau. But by the will of Allah, what happened, and Allah made it that he later became the Senator for Kano Central. So this is not new,” he said.
He added that now that the respected Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna has come in with people from all 44 local government areas who joined the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Hanga has ceded the senatorial ticket to him.
“If we are truly doing politics, Gawuna should not be abandoned. We believe power belongs to Allah and He gives it to whoever He wills at the time He wills. Distinguished Senator Hanga is not desperate for power. Power, when it is held, is meant to serve the people,” Maikarfi said.
Hon. Nura Maikarfi said Senator Hanga gave Gawuna the opportunity to contest for Kano Central because he was satisfied with Gawuna’s integrity. He said every politician with Senator Hanga is satisfied with this step because it is about coming together to form a government. “Once we achieve victory, no one will be left behind,” he said.
He reiterated that Senator Hanga has been in politics for over 50 years, with or without holding office, and he has always been with the people. “Even I, his aide, have been with him for almost 20 years, with or without office. This is a struggle to bring good people into office so the public can get relief from the hardship they are facing,” he said.
Maikarfi said their goal is to struggle for change so the common man benefits from democracy. He said Senator Hanga’s supporters are there with or without office because they believe they are serving the people, and the people who elect them are confident they can deliver.
Under their Kwankwasiyya structure, he said they are looking at how to bring change and reform. “When they see people with the same ideology who can help the public, they will bring them together to increase strength and serve the people,” he said.
*On the Gubernatorial Race*
Hon. Nura Abubakar Maikarfi said their party, NDC, under the Kwankwasiyya movement, has given the Kano State governorship ticket to Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo. He said they are waiting for the masses to decide, because everyone knows Gwarzo is a prominent politician who started from the grassroots, with vision and ideology.
“Gwarzo was in government as Deputy Governor of Kano but resigned his position to join the Kwankwasiyya movement because he saw that the way the government was being run was not right. Gwarzo is a good man and we are confident people will be proud of him if he becomes Governor of Kano State in the 2027 election,” he said.
In conclusion, Hon. Nura Maikarfi urged the people of Kano State to return to their local government wards to obtain the voter’s card being issued by INEC so they can use it during the election to remove the current Kano government and secure victory for NDC across the country.
