The Kwankwasiyya Movement has expressed deep concern over the controversy surrounding the so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC, saying the matter has gone beyond an individual and has become a test of transparency and accountability for the Federal Government.
In a statement signed by its Spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, and made available on Friday, the movement said the Presidency had publicly declared that PFIPC never existed and distanced itself from anyone claiming to represent it.
However, the group noted that credible reports indicate a budgetary allocation of over one billion naira was made in the 2026 Appropriation Act for an entity bearing that name or a closely related designation.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement said the controversy cannot be dismissed as the misconduct of one person, adding that Nigerians deserve clear answers.
The group asked: - If the council never existed, how did it find its way into the national budget?
- Who proposed and approved the allocation?
- Which government offices processed the documentation?
- Was any public money released or committed?
- If official documents were allegedly forged, how were they used for such a long period without detection?
“This issue also has implications beyond Nigeria’s borders. Foreign investors assess not only economic policies but also the integrity of public institutions. Any uncertainty about the authenticity of government bodies or official appointments risks undermining confidence in Nigeria’s governance and investment climate,” the statement said.
The movement urged the Presidency to publish a comprehensive account of the facts, including the origin of the budgetary provision, the administrative processes involved, and the actions being taken to prevent a recurrence.
It also called on the National Assembly, anti-corruption agencies and other relevant oversight institutions to independently examine all aspects of the matter in accordance with the law.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement said the Tinubu administration came into office promising renewed hope, institutional reform and responsible governance, and that those promises must now be measured by its willingness to provide full disclosure.
“Silence, contradictions, or attempts to shift responsibility will only deepen public distrust,” the statement added.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to democratic accountability, saying public office is a public trust and that every naira appropriated belongs to the Nigerian people.
“No democracy can flourish where questions are discouraged or contradictions go unexplained. The Nigerian people deserve the truth, and they deserve it without delay,” Dr. Mohammed said.
