Kano State has cleared former Head of Service Abdullahi Musa of N1.8 billion mismanagement claims, calling the allegations misinformation.

The announcement came Saturday in a statement by Chief Press Secretary Mustapha Muhammad from Government House, Kano.

Secretary to the State Government Umar Farouk Ibrahim gave the clarification during a Dinner and Award Night hosted by the state with the Nigeria Labour Congress at Government House.

The event followed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s May Day directive to investigate the issue.

The probe was ordered after Kano NLC Chairman Kabiru Inuwa alleged that the immediate past Head of Service had mismanaged state funds. In response, the governor tasked the SSG with conducting a full review of the matter.

An audit traced the N1.8 billion to loan vendors who overcharged civil servants through excessive salary deductions. The SSG said no government official mismanaged the funds. The loan scheme was suspended during the investigation.

A professional auditing firm examined the state payroll and accounts of affected workers for the period under review. It found several vendors charged rates far above their contracts, illegally collecting over N1.8 billion from civil servants.

The Kano State Government has now directed the loan vendors to refund the full N1.8 billion. The money will be returned to the affected civil servants.

Ibrahim stressed that the allegation against former Head of Service Abdullahi Musa was unfounded, confirming the N1.8 billion was due to vendor overcharges, not government mismanagement.
