A Nigerian-born pediatrician, Dr. Bello Mode Dange, has been appointed Head of the Paediatric Department at Kavarna General Hospital, becoming the first African to occupy the position at the hospital.
Dr. Dange, who hails from Dange/Shuni Local Government Area in Sokoto State, studied medicine at the Medical University of Varna, where he graduated in 2008. He has lived and practiced medicine in Bulgaria for more than two decades.
In 2021, he completed his specialization in pediatrics at University Hospital St. Marina and qualified as a consultant pediatrician.
The management of Kavarna General Hospital announced the appointment, which was also reported by Bulgarian media outlets. According to the reports, Dr. Dange’s professional experience, dedication and commitment to child healthcare played a major role in his selection for the leadership position.
Colleagues at the hospital described him as a committed clinician whose contributions over the years have positively impacted pediatric healthcare services in the region.
Members of the Nigerian community in Bulgaria and across the diaspora have welcomed the development, describing it as another milestone showcasing Nigerians making significant contributions in the global medical profession.
The appointment further adds to the growing number of Nigerian medical professionals occupying senior clinical and administrative positions across Europe and other parts of the world.
Beyond his medical career, Dr. Dange is also known for humanitarian activities in his hometown, where he reportedly provides free medical services and assists in settling hospital bills for some patients in Dange/Shuni Local Government Area.
