The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano State, Alhaji Ibrahim Ali Amin Little, has called on all governorship candidates to embrace peaceful and issue-based campaigns as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) opens the campaign period ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by his campaign office and signed by Adnan Mukhtar, Little urged political candidates and their supporters to shun hate speech, inflammatory rhetoric and other actions capable of inciting violence among the electorate.
He said the commencement of the campaign period should provide an opportunity for political actors to present credible solutions to the challenges confronting Kano State rather than creating division and chaos.
«“Kano needs leaders who choose to build rather than destroy. The campaign period must be used to address the real problems confronting the state, not to create division and chaos,” he said.»
Little said that if elected governor in 2027, his administration would work closely with security agencies, traditional rulers, youths, the business community, Ulama and technocrats to strengthen security and ensure the safety of residents across the state.
He also pledged to tackle the growing social vices associated with drug abuse among youths through rehabilitation programmes and productive engagement, including farming and small and medium-sized enterprises.
The ADC flag-bearer urged Kano youths to take an active role in the electoral process, describing them as “leaders of today, not tomorrow.” He called on them to mobilise support for the ADC in pursuit of what he described as a brighter and more prosperous future for Kano and Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Little condemned the recent attack on journalists during a political event organised by the opposition All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in Kano, describing the incident as uncivilised and unacceptable.
He called on the state government to take steps to prevent a recurrence, while urging it to compensate the affected media organisation whose vehicle was reportedly damaged and whose staff were allegedly harassed during the incident.
According to him, protecting journalists and ensuring their safety while carrying out their professional duties is in the overall interest of democracy and the people of Kano State.
Little’s call comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections. The ADC candidate has previously outlined an agenda centred on youth empowerment, economic revival, industrial development and restoring Kano’s position as a major commercial hub.
