Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has urged all gubernatorial candidates and their supporters to conduct peaceful, issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The call was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad.
Governor Yusuf made the appeal following the formal opening by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the campaign timeline for the 2027 governorship election. He urged political actors to prioritise peace, unity and the overall interests of Kano State throughout the electoral process.
The governor called on his fellow contestants to present their programmes, policies and visions to the electorate without resorting to hate speech, personal attacks, violence or any action capable of undermining peaceful coexistence among the people of the state.
He said political campaigns should provide an opportunity for candidates to engage citizens on their plans to address the challenges facing Kano and consolidate the state’s development gains.
Governor Yusuf also urged political parties, supporters and other stakeholders to respect electoral laws and guidelines issued by INEC, stressing that the peace and stability of Kano State should take precedence over individual political interests.
He assured the people of Kano that his administration would continue to uphold democratic values and support efforts towards a peaceful, credible and transparent electoral process.
