The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso linking the party and its governorship candidate, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the disqualification of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.

In a press statement signed on Sunday, November 2, 2026, by its State Chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, the party described Kwankwaso’s allegation as false, baseless and a deliberate attempt to blackmail the APC and its candidate.

The APC maintained that the case has nothing to do with the party or Governor Yusuf, explaining that the suit was instituted by aggrieved members of the NDC against the party itself due to its internal crisis, which led to Gwarzo’s name missing on the INEC list.

“The case originated from the internal crisis within the NDC. It was instituted by members of the party against the NDC itself and not by the APC, its governorship candidate or the Kano State Government,” the statement said.

The party stressed that attempts to associate the APC and Governor Yusuf with the matter were misleading and intended to divert attention from the internal challenges confronting the NDC.

It further distanced itself from the legal proceedings, insisting that neither the APC nor its governorship candidate sponsored, influenced or facilitated any court action against Gwarzo.

The APC challenged Senator Kwankwaso, who is the vice-presidential candidate of the NDC, to provide credible and verifiable evidence linking the party or Governor Yusuf to the case, rather than making allegations capable of misleading the public and heating up the polity.

The party emphasized that it has no interest in interfering in the electoral process or using state power against opponents, adding that every eligible candidate has the constitutional right to participate in the 2027 general elections.

It noted that the judiciary is an independent arm of government and that neither the APC nor its candidate has the authority to dictate its proceedings or decisions.

The APC reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles and welcomed the participation of opposition parties in the electoral process.

It urged Kwankwaso and other political actors to allow relevant institutions to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without politicising legal matters arising from internal party disputes, which it said should not serve as an excuse for eventual failure in the 2027 elections.

The party therefore called on the public to disregard attempts to link the APC and its governorship candidate to the NDC’s internal legal battle.
