The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting professionalism and ethical standards in media practice.

This commitment was underscored by the Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, when he received the leadership of the Young Female Professionals in Media (YFPM) at his office.

Waiya assured the group of the government's continued partnership with stakeholders to sanitize the media space and uphold responsible media practices.

According to a press release by the Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, Waiya emphasized the ministry's tradition of championing ways to advance and enhance the media and information sector in collaboration with stakeholders.

He commended the YFPM for their commitment to maintaining professionalism, describing their initiative as timely and aligned with the ministry's mandate.

The commissioner noted that the media industry is currently plagued by unethical practices, which tarnish the reputation of the state and the profession.

To address this, the Kano State Government has agreed to collaborate with the Nigeria Union of Journalists to establish a committee comprising veteran journalists, known as the League of Veteran Journalists.

This committee will design strategies to strengthen ethical conduct in the media profession.

Waiya assured the YFPM of the ministry's support for efforts aimed at sanitizing the system and enhancing professionalism.

He emphasized the importance of working together to restore integrity and professionalism in the media industry.

The Secretary of YFPM, Maryam Usman Nagado, explained that the association is the first-ever organized coalition of young women in the media sector in the state and beyond.

The group is dedicated to mentoring upcoming journalists, promoting ethical standards, amplifying women's voices in the media, and contributing to social development through responsible journalism.

The YFPM leadership expressed their appreciation for Commissioner Waiya's tireless efforts in driving positive transformation in the media industry in Kano State.

They solicited support and partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for structured collaboration in areas such as training, advocacy, media literacy, and women empowerment in journalism.

The meeting between the YFPM and the Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs marked a significant step towards promoting ethical media practice and empowering women in journalism in Kano State.
