Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Malam Sani Shawai, a respected elder, education administrator and former Managing Director of the Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA).
Malam Sani Shawai, who died at the age of 85, was a former teacher and education officer who served in the old Kano State. He devoted many years to education and public service and is survived by three wives, children and numerous grandchildren.
In a condolence message issued on Friday, 26th September, 2026, Governor Yusuf described the deceased as a distinguished elder whose long life was marked by service to humanity, commitment to education and dedication to his family and community.
The Governor also extended his condolences to the children of the deceased, who are all in the media circle, including: Ibrahim Sani Shawai, journalist and former spokesperson of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO); Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly; and Muhammad Bello Sani Shawai of the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle (DW) Radio.
Governor Yusuf prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, reward his good deeds with Aljannatul Firdaus, and grant the family and associates the fortitude to bear the loss.
